As a pastor's wife and mom of two, I've been quite involved in children's ministry for the past 25 years or so. After school Bible club is one of the outreach ministries that led to many other connections in my community.
I've seen parents who would allow their children to attend club, but they would never allow them to attend a formal church service.
In these clubs we have a unique opportunity and a chance to introduce kids to who Jesus is and how they can know Him. Through songs and verses, lessons and games, conversations and interactions, we have an opportunity to minister to children who may hot have any other Christ-like influence in their young lives.
Some may think that a few hours each week is not enough time to make a difference, but I would disagree. I believe a huge impact can be made because I've seen it happen. I've seen children who attended after school Bible clubs continue on to youth group and be leaders in their schools and among their peers. I've seen my own two children attend club, age out of the program and then continue as volunteers. What a blessing to this mom's heart!
I believe that Psalm 145:4 says it best, "One generation will declare Your works to the next and will proclaim Your mighty acts."
What an amazing opportunity and responsibility we have to share Jesus with the next generation!
